The Investors in People Health and Well Being Award.

From improving employee engagement and productivity to enabling your workforce to be ready to embrace change, the new Health and Wellbeing Good Practice Award will help you get sustained performance from your people

The health and wellbeing agenda is much broader than just encouraging healthy eating and physical fitness. It’s no longer enough to provide free fruit and gym membership and expect this to deliver a healthy and motivated workforce.  Following research with employers, Investors in People believes good health and wellbeing practices encourage improvement, rather than just minimising sickness and injury.

Employers told us that they saw wellbeing as being about issues such as stress, a sense of worth, security and morale. Some organisations have realised that job satisfaction is no longer easy to provide in the current climate and are focusing on achieving employee engagement.

Dynamic Training UK are committed to the Health and Well Being agendas and in particular supporting healthy workplace practices.  We believe that effective health promotion within the workplace requires a whole organisation approach, from supporting front line staff, through to strategic management, for example through:

  • Raising employee awareness for healthy living
  • Providing tools and techniques that individuals can use to promote their own health and well being
  • Leadership and management training that foster the development of healthy workplace environments that promote the well being of their workforce.
  • Providing techniques for reducing stress, managing mental health within the workplace, effective team dynamics, creative problem solving
  • The development of a health champion training programme to disseminate the health and well being message to the workforce, by the workforce thus engaging and motivating from within
  • The development of a Health and Well Being strategy for the organisation
  • Strategic approaches to the development of a motivated, efficient, healthy workforce

A happy healthy workforce is a productive, efficient workforce.

Dynamic Training UK will be undertaking the Investors In People, Health and Well Being Award which follows the same formula as the Investors In People Standard.  For further information on the IIP Health and Well Being Award please view http://www.investorsinpeople.co.uk/Interactive/Awards/HWAward/Pages/GettingStarted.aspx or http://www.investorsinpeople.co.uk/Interactive/Awards/HWAward/Documents/Health%20and%20Wellbeing%20Good%20Practice%20Award%20Leaflet.pdf

Work Health Trainer level 4

Dynamic Training UK in partnership with Thames Valley University has created a Level 4 continuous professional development module for Health Trainers to become Work Health Trainers.

The Work Health Trainer (WHT) role is new and has been developed from the existing Health Trainer role which was introduced in the wake of the Government White Paper Choosing Health. The summary of the White Paper states:

‘Anyone who wants help to make healthier choices and stick to them will have the opportunity to be supported by a new kind of personal health resource, NHS health trainers. In keeping with a shift in public health approach from advice from on high to support from next door, health trainers will be drawn from local communities, understanding the day-to-day concerns and experiences of the people they are supporting on health’ (DH 2004).

The Work Health Trainer (WHT) follows similar concepts to the Health Trainer but with the focus on enabling people that may be out of work back into employment or meaningful activity. It is with the focus that this module has been developed.

Aim of Module:

To develop the relevant skills and knowledge required to facilitate clients out of work or having difficulty sustaining work, back into work or meaningful activity. This will be achieved by providing an understanding of the core principles, issues and values that form the foundations of the role and responsibilities of the Work Health Trainer.

  1. Demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between health and work and the barriers clients may face in order to get back into work or meaningful activity.
  2. Explore the affects of worklessness, long term conditions and stress.
  3. Enable indibiduals back into work or meaningful activity by exploring the principles of assessment and motivation.
  4. Communicate effectively with clients and promote self-management using coaching techniques.
  5. Develop the skills needed to understand and establish relationships with employment and health services in the local community, in order to provide a seamless service between relevant agencies.
  6. Develop a wider knowledge and understanding of promoting health and well-being within the workplace.
