Health Trainer
What is a Health Trainer?
The Health Trainer role was introduced in the wake of the Government White Paper Choosing Health. The summary of the White Paper states:
Anyone who wants help to make healthier choices and stick to them will have the opportunity to be supported by a new kind of personal health resource, NHS health trainers. In keeping with a shift in public health approach from advice from on high to support from next door, health trainers will be drawn from local communities, understanding the day-to-day concerns and experiences of the people they are supporting on health.

Benefits of Health Trainers
Health Trainers motivate and help people to set goals by developing personal health plans, give practical support to carry out those plans and identify with the individuals their barriers to change. The initiative was first targeted at the most disadvantaged areas to make it easier for individuals in these communities to make healthier choices.
Health Trainers are a new workforce to be recruited from the community and working in the NHS local organisations including local authorities, businesses, the voluntary and community sector.
