QCF Advice – NVQ’s are Changing

Are you aware of the Vocational Qualification Reform Programme (VQRP) ?

It is a UK-wide programme introducing changes to all post 16 vocational qualifications in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

The aim is to create a system that:

Is responsive to the needs of learners and employers
Helps every individual to fulfil their potential
Provides greater clarity and more flexibility and choice
Increases skills levels and the achievement of qualifications
Improves UK economic performance and competitiveness

The reform programme was established in 2005 and is led by DIUS – Department of Innovation Universities and Skills, see www.dius.gov.uk and www.qrsp.org.uk for up to date information.

The Qualification Credit Framework (QCF)

A unitized qualification framework underpinned by a system of credit accumulation and transfer. Designed to recognise a wider range of learner’s achievements than the National Qualification Framework (NQF). www.qrsp.org.uk

The Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) aims to:

Ensure that a wider range of learners’ achievements can be recognised within a more inclusive qualifications framework
Establish a qualifications system that is more responsive to individuals’ and employers’ needs
Establish a simpler qualifications framework that is easier for all users to understand

To achieve these objectives, the QCF is based on the principle that the fewer organisational constraints designed into the framework, the more responsive and inclusive it will be
